At DGE, we believe that clean energy is the key to real, lasting change. We're here to provide clean energy solutions that enable people to build better lives in rural off-grid communities.
Since 2016, we have delivered solar energy and light to over 30,000 rural households impacting 150,000 people and allowing families to power their lives free from the health hazards of kerosene fumes and the high cost of kerosene.
We are still scratching the surface, as Kenya still has more than 35 million people who lack access to electricity and rely on expensive kerosene for lighting, which is harmful to their health and environment.
At DGE, we are able to operate profitably at the last-last-mile, impacting communities typically neglected because they are hard to reach because of poor infrastructure and most households live below the poverty line. Through the PAYGO model, we are able to align customer payments with their typical cashflows increasing affordability and hence access. With PAYGO, customers pay a small deposit up-front and clear the balance over a period of 12 to 18 months.
In addition to providing access to clean energy and lighting, we have also empowered 450+ rural women and youth to become Village Social Entrepreneurs (VSEs), where they distribute solar products in their communities. The VSEs are commission based and earn a decent income through selling solar products leveraging their social capital and local intelligence.
We're excited to announce that we've launched a seed round of $1.5 million, which will help us scale our distribution operations from 12 to 25 counties, diversify our product offering, and improve our customer experience.
Investing in us is investing in a brighter future for thousands of rural off-grid communities. Let’s create an impact together!
